Your Journey to a Full Motorcycle Licence
Master Each Stage with Confidence
Understanding the process of obtaining your full motorcycle licence is crucial for every learner. At Stoke M T, we aim to demystify the journey towards your licence by clearly outlining the multiple stages that you will encounter. Starting with the Compulsory Basic Training (CBT), which equips you with the essential skills and knowledge, each subsequent step prepares you for the next challenge. After completing your CBT, you will embark on the theory test, where you will have the opportunity to demonstrate your understanding of road safety and the Highway Code. Following that, practical training sessions will take you through the essential riding techniques under the guidance of our experienced instructors. Finally, you will progress to the practical tests, which assess your riding competency in real-world scenarios. Our goal is to support you in navigating these stages with ease, ensuring that you are well-prepared to achieve your full motorcycle licence and enjoy the freedom of the open road.
Here's a more detailed roadmap:
1. Compulsory Basic Training (CBT):
- This is your first step, regardless of the type of license you want.
- CBT involves practical on-road and off-road training with a certified instructor.
- It is not a test, but a training course that allows you to ride a motorcycle up to 125cc with L plates.
- CBT is valid for two years.
2. Theory Test:
- You need to pass a motorcycle theory test before taking your practical tests.
- The theory test includes multiple-choice questions and a hazard perception test.
3. Practical Tests (Module 1 and 2):
Module 1:
This test is conducted off-road on a designated area and assesses your ability to handle the motorcycle at slow speeds, perform maneuvers, and deal with emergency situations.
Module 2:
This test is conducted on the road and assesses your overall riding ability and road sense.
4. Choosing your license:
A1 License (Light Motorcycle):
For riders aged 17 and over. Allows you to ride motorcycles up to 125cc with a power output of up to 11kW (14.6bhp).
A2 License (Medium Motorcycle):
For riders aged 19 and over. Allows you to ride motorcycles up to 35kW (47bhp).
Full Unrestricted A License (Direct Access):
For riders aged 24 and over, or those who have held an A2 license for two years. Allows you to ride any size of motorcycle.
5. Upgrading your license:
- If you start with an A1 or A2 license, you can upgrade to a larger category by taking another practical test.
- For example, after two years with an A2 license, you can upgrade to the full unrestricted A license by taking a practical test.
